Taylor Swift concerts in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil:

17/11/2023 Rio De Janeiro
18/11/2023 Rio De Janeiro [postponed to 20/11]
19/11/2023 Rio De Janeiro
2o/11/2023 Rio De Janeiro

First Day:

"Despite the city's vocation for major events, such as Copacabana New Year's Eve and Carnival, for example, Rio became the target of criticism last week. Among the cases that gained international repercussion is thedeath of young Ana Clara Benevides, aged 23, during singer Taylor Swift's first concert in Rio de Janeiro. January, on Friday (17)."

"In the opinion of Moacyr Duarte, a specialist in risk management, protocols for major events must consider climate emergencies.

"There are protocols to prevent the entry of water, because of the cap that fills the water and hits the artist and because of drugs. (...) These protocols do not overlap with climate emergencies (...) with temperatures above 40 degrees. There was a lack of sensitivity and competence for production to distribute water,” commented Moacyr."

"In the opinion of Leo Morel, who has years of experience working in the music market, there is an urgent need for regulation in the production of shows in the country.

"Here in Rio there is one festival after another, lots of shows. It is possible to think about regulation. The state has to be present, but also because it collects taxes and foreign exchange. It is important that public and private agents are in contact to obviously prioritize the quality of the event for the attendees, for the citizen", argued Morel."

The Consumer Delegation (Decon) of the Civil Police of Rio de Janeiro even opened an inquiry to investigate the conduct of Time For Fun (T4F) in relation to the organization of the shows and the death of Ana Clara, to determine the possible crime of danger to life or health. Serafim Abreu, CEO of T4F, apologized for the death six days later.

Serafim Abreu, CEO of Time For Fun (T4F), producer of Taylor Swift's tour in Brazil, made a statement this Thursday- fair, 23, about the chaos that occurred at the singer's shows in Rio de Janeiro.

It turns out that, at a certain point in the note, the company's CEO says that the organization could have taken alternative measures to deal with the heat wave, including “emphasizing more the permission to bring disposable water cups” which “has always been released ” — but the supposed permission was not included in the guidance to the public shared by the company on social media...

In an Instagram post with general notices for the singer's first show in the country, on the 17th, a list of permitted items is provided. There are things like tickets, documents, cereal bars, sunscreen and even instant cameras, but no mention of glasses of water. On the list of prohibited objects, on the other hand, one of the items states that the entry of “bottles, thermal cups, cans, DRINKS, utensils will not be permitted. storage and rigid packaging with lids”. A poster posted in front of the stadium also warned of the prohibition of “glass cups or any other type of packaging”.

On social media, there is no shortage of reports of fans who were prevented from entering with cups, which were sold inside the stadium for around 8 reais. “Why did they throw away mine, which were id...

identical to the ones that were being sold there then?”, asked a fan on the social network X. “Dthey left It was very clear that you could enter with glassofwater, not even the magazine knew ”, joked another user of the network.

It is worth remembering that other measures cited as alternatives to deal with high temperatures, such as the creation of shaded areas in external areas, were mentioned by fans days before the shows but the appeals were not heeded.

Taylor Swift throws water bottles to fans at concert:

During the performance, Taylor was concerned about the temperature and condition of the audience. The singer interrupted the performance and asked the show organizers to distribute bottles of water to the fans who were in front of the stage.

"Some people need water here. Maybe 30, 40 feet back. They are holding a phone to say they need water. So whoever is in charge of giving it to them, just make sure it happens. Can I get a signal that you know where they are? Do you see the phones? Sorry, it's just too hot. If someone says they need water when it's hot, they really do. We just need to give these people water.”

the Rio Civil Police opened an investigation against T4F. According to the police, "after learning of reports from the public present at the event, the Consumer Police Department (Decon) opened an investigation to investigate the crime of danger to life or health".

The event organizers will be called to testify and other steps are underway to determine the facts.

Other authorities had already investigated the company's stance during the show. The Ministry of Justice, for example, demanded an explanation about the fact that bottles of water were not allowed at the entrance.

Second Day:

On the second day of the singer's performance in Rio, after allowing the public to enter the stadium, fans were surprised by the postponement of the show due to the strong heat.

“I'm very sad because we spent the whole day in line during this heat, they had the whole day to postpone the show, while people were outside and no one said anything”, reported a fan.

“I came from the "Holy Spirit". I will have to leave tomorrow, my loss is great. I won't be able to see the show on Monday. I only came because of her [referring to her daughter]”, says a man.

"There were less than two hours left until the start of the show. Engenhão was already full and the news came that caused great frustration.

Taylor Swift posted on social media: “I’m writing from my dressing room at the stadium. We have made the decision to postpone tonight's show due to the extreme temperatures in Rio. The safety and well-being of my fans, artists and team will always come first."

Today Rio de Janeiro recorded a record temperature: 42 degrees. After much expectation, fans complained.

"Lack of respect towards people who are fans. We stayed there all day to watch the show and nothing,” said a fan. "I think it was a sensible decision at the wrong time. This decision had to be made in the morning before the gates were opened,” said another."

"It was the worst pain I've ever felt in my life, I screamed really loud and didn't realize I was being burned at first, I thought it was just a grating until the pain became unbearable", she says.

g1 spoke with risk management specialist, Moacyr Duarte, who explained that due to extreme temperatures, plates like those used in show structure can reach 80°C and cause serious burns.

Our skin decomposes at around 68° C to 70° C and these plates can reach almost 80° C if you put them in the sun. What was missing there was a lack of planning, given the death of the fan and the struggle that went into getting water to drink during the show on a day that was a meteorological emergency declared by the Civil Defense.

— Moacyr Duarte, risk management specialist.

According to dermatologist Aline Grasielli Monçale, the skin already loses proteins at temperatures above 44°C.

"We know that skin proteins begin to denature at 44°C, but we can't predict at what temperature they burn, because we can burn at a temperature lower than that if exposed for a long time", says Aline.

"It is important that show production pays attention to the show's weather and adapts this to the public's comfort. You cannot prohibit the entry of water bottles and not have the structure to distribute water to people during a show on a day when it is over 40°C. You need to review the planning so that there is no this type of failure." says the expert.

Thrird Day:

Taylor Swift returned to Engenhão this Sunday (19) for the second of three shows in Rio on "The Eras Tour'. Without mentioning the two dead fans -- one who fell ill at the show and the other a victim of robbery --, the pop star handed everything over to her "swifties", who sang euphorically from start to finish.

Even the extreme heat, which led to the postponement of Saturday's performance (18), took a break, and it rained during much of the performance.

On social media, some fans linked Taylor's choice to play the song “Bigger Than the Whole Sky” as a surprise song as a tribute to Ana Clara.

An excerpt from Taylor's song in question goes like this: “I have no answers after what happened / Salt pours from my eyes into my ears / Everything I touch sickens with sadness / For it's all over now / All washed away by the sea / Goodbye , goodbye, goodbye / You were bigger than the entire sky.”

Others complained about the lack of words about what happened: “Wow, the show ended and Taylor didn't say anything about the fan who passed away? Did you just ignore what happened?” wrote a Twitter user.

“I found a lot of lack of empathy on her part, no consideration for the fan who died... She was trying to separate her image and stifle the tragedy that happened,” wrote another.

Another fan, Gabriel Mongenot, 25, didn't even get to see Taylor. With a ticket for this Sunday's show, hewas stabbed in a robbery on the sand of Copacabana Beach, during the early hours of the morning. Those suspected of committing the crime were arrested.

Forth day:

Young Clarissa Vieira came from the United States for the artist's tour in Brazil. According to her, nothing has changed in relation to Saturday's show (18), which was postponed until today because of the heat.

“I came for Saturday's show, which was cancelled. I arrived a little later, but it's exactly the same. They said it would be better, but there is no change”, said Clarissa.

Student Júlia Alvarenga also criticized the lack of support for fans. “It’s still a bit disorganized. There are people trying to jump the queue and we don't see any employees here to help us”, she said.

Water

The lack of water mentioned by fans at the first presentation, last week, was also the target of complaints this Monday.

“I arrived at 9am and still didn’t see anyone distributing water. They had everything to improve this experience”, complained Victoria Leal.

Fan death

"Ana Clara began to feel ill during the presentation, according to her friend Daniele Menin, who was with her. Daniele said that the young woman fainted during the song Cruel Summer, the second in Taylor's repertoire.

"In the second song she just passed out. Then we took her out with the help of security and ran to the support post in the stadium. They attended to her and took her to the ambulance,” remembers Daniele.

The Minister of Justice and Public Security, Flávio Dino, announced on Saturday an ordinance to allow bottled water for personal use at shows in the country. Another measure is to force producers to offer free water.

“From today onwards, as determined by the Consumer Secretariat of the Ministry of Justice, water bottles for personal use, in suitable material, will be allowed to enter shows. And companies producing shows with high heat exposure must provide free drinking water in easily accessible ‘hydration islands’,” wrote the minister.

“The National Consumer Secretariat will take the appropriate measures for inspection, with the collaboration of States and Municipalities, as well as action by the Police, if necessary”, he amended."

The body of Ana Clara Benevides was buried in the city of Pedro Gomes (MS), on September 21st, after family and fans of the singer Taylor Swift came together to cover the costs of transporting the young woman's body. In less than 12 hours, family and fans of the American singer raised R$30,000.3

Early in the morning, singer Taylor Swift mourned the young woman's death.

"I can't believe I'm writing these words, but it's with a broken heart that I say we lost a fan tonight. I can't even tell you how devastated I am."

Fans' strategies at Taylor Swift's concert in Brazil to escape the heat:

"The team even witnessed a improvised shower, provided free of charge by a supportive gentleman (See the video above). . In addition to the fans, vendors present at the venue took the opportunity for a quick shower

“It doesn't cost anything, it's just because the heat is really hot and there are people who have already had a bad time, so I did this to improve more. The heat is very hot. I did it myself. I went there and bought three pipes for people to get wet. This water comes from my house,” she reports.

Another gesture accompanied by the team to alleviate the heat was the action of Firefighters who threw jets of water at the public in line. “We have to have a reserve. (...) But I think it refreshed the staff a little, gave them some relief”, says firefighter Hélio Mattos."

Taylor Swift concerts in São Paulo, Brazil:

24/11/2023 São Paulo
25/11/2023 São Paulo
26/11/2023 São Paulo

Unlike what happened in Rio de Janeiro days before, in São Paulo, fans ended up braving rain and cold to follow Taylor Swift.

The first show in São Paulo had again confusion with water bottles - the military police did not allow people to enter with the containers covered, which affected the first fans who entered. The problem was later resolved, with new guidance.

The organization of the queues also left something to be desired. Not only for the fans, but also for the Association of Residents of the Arena SP Area, whichreported blocking entry to houses, stores, schools and even a health unit< a i=2> due to the accumulation of Taylor Swift fans.

Taylor Swift announced that the show would have broken the attendance record among musical performances at Allianz Parque. The following day, Saturday, the record would have been broken again.

"The São Paulo Public Security Secretariat reported that the Military Police received only ten calls around Allianz Parque, in the West Zone of the capital, during the three days of the American singer's shows Taylor Swift, who performed at the venue from Friday to Sunday.

According to the ministry, there were more incidents of "disagreements between people" than theft during the period: there were six "disagreements" and three robberies in that region, in addition to an attempted robbery. The number of people detained was not reported. In a statement, the SSP said that policing around the stadium had been reinforced for the days of the event and that "there was no record of serious crimes against life".

On Friday, the date of Taylor Swift's first performance in the capital of São Paulo, police officers from the PM Cavalry were celebrated by fans who waited in line before the gates opened. The police worked with the show's organizers to avoid commotion and minimize the chances of events like those that had been recorded a week earlier in Rio, when there were dragnets after the cancellation of one of the singer's performances."

Despite the cold, the drizzle that persisted throughout the afternoon while fans were in line came to an end after the start of the show.

At Friday's show, fans complained about the disorganization involving the entrance lines to the arena, especially for those who had purchased the VIP package — which promised “priority and early entry into the sector”. Due to the long queues, many who purchased the package ended up entering Allianz Parque after those who purchased normal tickets.

In contrast to the extreme heat faced by the locals, the São Paulo show was marked by mild temperatures, with cloudy weather and unstable drizzle. At 7:30 pm, when Taylor took the stage, the city's thermometers registered 18ºC. There were more than three hours of presentation, parading through the monumental structure that practically crosses the entire stadium lawn. Throughout the night, the atmosphere at the event was calm. On social media, fans reported having a great view of the show, regardless of the sector in which they were located, and a comfortable experience in general.

in São Paulo Military Police, the company hosting the event, was pressured by fans via social media to implement measures that would improve the public's situation. At Allianz, free water distribution points and drinking fountains were installed.
