Narrative construction

All news reports are written in a particular structure and style in order to grab the reader's attention, therefore they will not feel lost. Most reports are based on the inverted pyramid of articles for a superb narrative construction. The article  instantly introduces us to the technique 'Intro and Twist", which is commonly  used journalists. Barbie Latza Nadeau applied it in the beginning of the article when she mentioned the great success of Italy plans for further tourist attraction. However, by the end of the intro she explains the controversial plan(artificial snow for tourist attraction) which is causing massive protests.

    

             

Treatment

The term " treatment" describes how media outlets display and cover news stories. Included in it are the choices made by reporters and editors regarding how to cover a certain news event, the reporting style, the angles used, and the weight assigned to various parts of the narrative. It is crucial for journalists to aim for accuracy, impartiality, and balance in their reporting since the way they present the news can affect how the public views and comprehends the events they cover. The journalist Barbie, is giving out her perspective, as in the beginning she mentions her opinion on how "there are few things Italians do better dan dreaming big against the odds. However It was all Ironic as after she switched to the controversial idea of the ski facility to be built on a snowless northern Italian mountain. This type of news treatment might influence how the audience perceives the issue. In addition, the journalist also uses visual such as Images, in order to evoke emotions and potentially impact how the audience relates to the content. 

Quality and Depth

Quality and depth is very essential to provide all the facts it can find, and ensures they are accurate. Quality :  The information about who, what where, and why. Who : Italian ski facility, What: it plans to built a multi-million dollar ski facility on a snowless mountain, where: Monte San Primo(1,682meters), why: to lure winter tourists. The significance to think about the audience is very important as it needs to be news worthy. In this case , the audience who loves skiing might be very concerned. The journalist also provides the audience with the protests of 33 groups which have been trying to eliminate the project. This shows clarity of the situation.The depth of an article is like digging deep into story details. The journalist did this by including the letter sent to George Clooney and Lake Como to speak out in support of the community.

The role of the interviewer/presenter. the interviewee as a character of the story

The journalist, Barbie Latza Nadeau is an American journalist ad author who lives in Roma since 1996. The tone of the news stories makes a lot of more sense now. The enthusiasm and the consideration of the Italian residents is louder as the journalist is also one of them.

The cultural context in this news story is related to the skiing community where they will all be affected by this plan. 

The presenter's intentions of telling the story

The journalist's intentions of telling this story is to emphasise on the problems which climate change is causing . In this case, climate change is destroying any room for snow. Therefore, this new story is the consequence of the global warming which is being cause by the whole world. This article may be a sign to raise awareness on global warming in order to inform the audience the societal impact.

Nowadays fake and hoax news might be easy to be shared around the world. That is the reason why one should always be very careful about whether the news we are following is reliable and authentic. If not, people would be reading ad believing false information which will undoubtedly be spread by word of moth and chaos will take place. Once reading a news story or article make sure it really exists and also check the if the website is real. In this case, CNN is a real news website. In addition, photos or clips inserted in an article may also be in the form of AI or fake, therefore there is a website to search for the images (TiEye). To identify reliable sources one should consider these four terms known as the C.R.A.A.P test)

Currency:  It was published on Saturday November 18, 2023 and it was updated. The topic require current information.

Relevance: The information does related to the answer of my question as the money has been pledged and the plan is no longer proceeding due to the controversial opinions amongst the audience. The intended audiences are environmental and skiing enthusiasts. 

Authority: The author is Barbie Latza Nadeau  who worked with Rome Bureau chief for Newsweek Magazine and currently holds the position for the daily Beast. She is an on-air contributor for CNN and a writer for Scientific American.

Accuracy: The information of the article is coming from various related articles which are also reliable and authentic. The articles is supported by various videos( The snowboarder fighting to protect our winters) and photos of the mountain which has some ski infrastructure despite the shortage of snow). The language used by the journalist is quite free of emotion and is based on moral decisions and perspectives. In addition, the journalist is on the side of the people who are against the multi-million dollar ski plan. 

Purpose: The purpose of the information in this article is definitely to raise awareness on climate change and the consequences which it is causing. In this case, skiing enthusiasts  are becoming aware that snow is melting due to global warming and action should be done instantly. In addition, the article points out that the millions that where going to be invested where clearly not going to be enjoyed due to fake snow mountains. The article is impartial as there are no biased opinions and it seems that the majority want the same thing.

The agenda of this articles expresses the environmental issues caused by the society we live in . It targets the impacts of climate change which is effecting a lot of people such as skiing enthusiasts. This article is a very informative and environmentally considerate. In addition, these will help expose the real consequences to the audience.

Narrative construction

Th article first introduces the readers with main points  that will lead the whole news story. The 5 w's are included . In this case, Who- a 49 year old woman,  What - murder charges on the woman suspected for killing three people from mushroom poisoning, Where- Australia Leongatha in southern Victoria, When- earlier this year, why- still investigating. The more one keeps on reading the more additional information there is. `For example; 'The three victims where her former mother-in law Gail Patterson, 70 , Gail's sister Heather Wilkinson, 66, and Gail's 70-year-old husband'.

Treatment

News treatment refers to the way news stories are presented and reported by media outlets.  When looking at the angle and perspective in this article, one can notice that although the investigation is still ongoing , the news story gives out some certainty that the suspect, Erin Patterson is responsible for the deaths.'Patterson was a suspect because she cooked the meal, and was the only adult at the lunch who didn’t fall ill'. In addition, the journalist adds figures of speech of the suspect to show how she is reacting. This gives us a very detailed perspective of the suspect. 

Quality and Depth.

The quality and depth  of this article is quite rich. To illustrate this , one can notice that most of the statements are backed by  figures of speech  from an authority. This gives the audience a sense of validation and a deeper understanding. In addition, there is also figures of speech from the officer who is assigned to this investigation. This gives out a sense of quality.

The role of the interviewer

The journalist, Tara Subramaniam is the Asia-Pacific Affairs writer for CNN digital worldwide, based in Hong Kong.She had previously worked as an Associate Producer in Washington, D.C. for CNN's fact-checking team. She started working for CNN in 2018 as a member of the team that covered the Russia probe. She helped with reporting on the U.S. District Court and the office of the special counsel.Subramaniam, an Atlanta native, has also resided in France, China, and India. She earned a degree in International Political Economics from Georgetown University's School of Foreign Service. She speaks Mandarin and French with ease.

The person's intentions of telling the story. 

I believe that the journalist's intention of telling the story is to inform people that mushrooms can also be used as a weapon tool apart from a desirable topping on a pizza . In addition, another intention is to inform the public on this report to make people aware on what's happening worldwide.
